Devoured it in one night!
I saw the movie, Lion, a few years ago and it provides an excellent adaptation of Saroo's story. Even so, I found the book to be excellent in its own right. Saroo's story is an amazing one. It's full of luck, love, hope and perseverance as Saroo tries to find his family after losing them over 20 years previously when he accidentally falls asleep on a train that takes him hundreds of miles away from home. I watched the movie (Lion) first and then read the book the next day. Unlike most movies/books (where I usually read the book first) this was a good way to do it. The book filled in many of the details that the movie was missing. Def go well together.
I don’t know if it was the writing or the audio narrator but I found this book to be not very emotionally compelling. Odd given it’s subject matter. I watched the movie a couple days after I finished the book and I think the film did a much better job of capturing the emotions. In the book, everything seemed like it wasn’t such a big deal.
I loved this book. I wish every child had a home, food and shelter!
