Oh my goodness, what a ride!! This novel is one of the funniest, most nerve-wracking stories I've had the pleasure of reading. I definitely laughed out loud, got misty-eyed a few times, and had goosebumps all along my arms at several different moments! A truly incredible read!!

This is a book by a science geek. Kind of amazing that it captured the imagination of so many, and before anyone thinks my review is a snub, it captured my imagination and I wanted to know the end of the story. Much of the story is about the technical difficulties of surviving on Mars and in a way it is kind of similar to the movie "Survivor" (is that the title?) where Tom Hanks is stranded on an island and talks to a beachball. If there is any thought of God in "The Martian", I must have missed

I had no idea how much I was going to enjoy this book!! A bit like McGyver meets mad scientist, and really, really funny to boot. I rooted for Mark from the first page, and couldn't wait to see what other challenge he would face next. Great, fun summer read.

Enjoyable and reasonably scientifically plausible sci-fi adventure. Glad I read it before the movie as with the depth and details I'm sure a lot will be glossed over by Hollywood out of time necessity.
