This sweet, heartwarming, and heart-wrenching realistic book made me laugh and cry. Every tween (and their parents) should read it.
It is the story of a boy born with a genetic syndrome that causes severe facial abnormalities and medical comorbidities. He was too ill to attend school until he decides to start middle school.

A standing ovation for the book. I hope others come away as optimistically as I have from this book. Auggie's family is really wonderful, not perfect, just doing their best with the cards they have been dealt...finding courage when needed, pushing their kids and allowing them to be authentic. I liked the transitions within the book of the various narrators and felt that added to the insights provided. I would reread this again in the future with my kids and I will probably once again have tears

Auggie Pullman was born with facial defects. He is now entering school for the first time in fifth grade. This book is aimed at elementary school kids and if I was that age I might like the book better. I think the bullying aspects were well done especially at the beginning of the book. The switching of character viewpoints was good though I wish Julian, the main "bad guy" character, had some chapters from his point of view. The ending just got way too cheesy and over the top for me.

This was not a good audio book to listen to - the voice was a really annoying child's voice so that may have colored my impression of the book. I have not read a middle school book in a long time and the dialog was exactly that - children's dialog. Still it had a beautiful message - about how important kindness is - and I think it would be a fabulous book for anyone in those ages or parenting those ages.

It was, for lack of a better word, wonderful. It's intended for ages 8-12, but made 24 year old me tear up. Loved it.
