Robert B. Parker is one of the classics in this genre and for some reason I have yet to read his books. This will be corrected in 2016 - starting with his 'Spenser' series.

I don't know why it took me so long to read any of Parker's books because I tend to like his writing style. Spenser #1 is a good place to start and now I only have 30 something to go. Spenser has just the right amount of renegade in him to make him likeable without having so many character flaws that he becomes unbelievable.
