Robert B. Parker is one of the classics in this genre and for some reason I have yet to read his books. This will be corrected in 2016 - starting with his 'Spenser' series.

I don't know why it took me so long to read any of Parker's books because I tend to like his writing style. Spenser #1 is a good place to start and now I only have 30 something to go. Spenser has just the right amount of renegade in him to make him likeable without having so many character flaws that he becomes unbelievable. ...more
