It's really rare that I find something that is written so well and thought-provoking, while being so much fucking fun. I am impressed, especially when I am not a short-story person at all. I found myself comparing him to David Foster Wallace, if you took carefully curated bite size pieces. I feel like I am taking a star away for not having more stories!

Yea, all of the hype and plaudits are on the mark for this one. I went into Tenth of December a skeptic, but by the end I was wholly converted. The way that Saunders exposes characters' flaws and hypocrisies is so on point that readers won't be able to avoid wincing with recognition at how familiar these contradictions and foibles are in ourselves and society. Really liked "Escape from Spiderhead" and "The Semplica Girl Diaries." Still think "CivilWarLand in Bad Decline" is his best of what I've read.
