Phew... In the beginning, I didn't really like the way the story went, especially the main character, Monsieur Perdu who is so self-centered, pathetic, and sad. But.. along the way, I fell in love with the story, the other characters (Max Jordan is my favorite!), and the slow but assuring plot. I felt like I was with them cruising along France rivers in a very cool, cozy book barge. Arghh it seems like a dream comes true, traveling along with books and selling books to people who need some cure ...more

Charming, surprisingly complex, quietly revolutionary. This book weaves love, grief, and an adoration for the written word that is both inspiring and heartbreaking. Wow, this slow burn of a book gutted me; it was not the light and sweet ode to books that I expected. Thankfully, it was so much more!
