This book is an extremely fast read. I finished it in less than two days and I'm not necessarily a fast reader. The book is set in a dream-like landscape along the U.S. - Mexican border where life is stark and filled with brutality. The protagonist, a young woman named Makina, journeys through this land to find her brother in the United States. The journey is arduous and filled with harrowing moments. This is a very short novel about a young woman crossing from Mexico to the United States to find her brother. It seemed to be well translated and brought up some real issues about the role of Latin American immigrants in the US in a very poetic way.
