It was incredibly, incredibly enjoyable to read a utopia -- after so many dystopian novels, a utopian novel feels bizarrely fresh, and of course hopeful. And Herland is, for sure, a utopia -- a feminist, communal utopia.
If you've already read some feminist lit, there won't be any truth bombs in here. The book is certainly dated in some ways (after all, it's from 1915), but a lot of it remains fairly relevant. I found the narrator key to my enjoyment of the book; he's a fairly upstanding man who ...more

I was not excited to read this when it was assigned for a class, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I did have to so a little skimming from time to time because it became dry and because I had to finish it so I could start writing a paper, but it was mostly a fun read.
