This was a sweet, though predictable, coming of age story. I enjoyed the vulnerability, honesty and sassiness of the protagonist as she discovers her place in the world. I also appreciated the strong emphasis on education. The quotes below are reflective of how I have lived my life and lessons I have tried to impart to my children.

I don't know how I missed this classic growing up, but I'm glad I finally rectified the omission.

An author I like suggested this novel and a modern re-telling, “Dear Mr. Knightley.” This one was okay. I didn’t LOVE it and it didn’t move me the way that Dear Mr. Knightley did. I think I don’t need to re-visit this one.
