Hard to keep track of the back and forth in time periods or paste/present on audio. Some parts were interesting and other parts I couldn’t wait to be over so it could move onto a different time period and different group of people. I’m not a huge fan of dystopian and end of the world books, but there were many parts of the story, including a pandemic, that I really enjoyed.

It's unusual to focus on the arts when it comes to apocalypse stories; art is usually considered to be non-essential so I wanted to like this more. Going through the pandemic has helped us realize that the arts are food for the soul. However, the story was ho-hum and I didn't see the point of Arthur and the comic book aside from being the Kevin Bacon in this book.

This book is chilling and beautiful and a wonderful story about humanity, civilization and what it all means. At the heart of it all is a traveling symphony/drama group that preforms for what's left of humanity after a great epidemic that lives by the phrase "survival is not sufficient." That phrase gets to the heart of it all. The story is moving, I know it will stay with me for a long time.
