I picked this book up on the Lucky Day shelf at the library. I must admit it was a book cover decision. I didn't even read the back until I got home. So naughty, I know. But, anything on the Lucky Day shelf must be worth the read, right? Anywho, it only took me five days to read and I enjoyed every minute of it. Loved this!

I want to like this book more than I do. But... there's something missing. The plot is intriguing, with the setting of Amsterdam in 1680s, but it is really slow and a bit tiring. The characters are not easy to be liked, and the ending and the answer of the mysteries are not satisfying. I hope for more clear, contented answers - but all I got is an unclear ending. I love the element of the history though.

Liked the first third. The interest and tension unraveled too quickly after that. Great descriptions of 17th c. Amsterdam. Dialogue and world views weren't circa 17th century at all, though--try the 20th.
