Another outstanding book by Murakami. What makes this book different from the others that he has written is that Murakami brought more clarity and realism to this story than he has done in the past. There isn't so much to figure out, which was a nice change of pace, because I could just sit back and enjoy the beautiful writing. As usual, another beautiful writing by Haruki Murakami. Still featuring a lonely, sensitive guy who is shocked to know that he was being cut off from his group of friends because of something that he didn't understand.
Years later, Tsukuru Tazaki met a woman who told him to face his mystery, confront the issue directly with his ex-friends. Otherwise, he would not be happy for the rest of his life.

Here was another great, non-fantasy work by one of my favorite authors. I generally enjoy his more fantastic tales a bit more, but this one had a plot that struck me right in the heart. I have also felt the sting of losing people whom I loved very much, seemingly at the drop of a hat, and out of nowhere as Tsukuru does in this novel.
Why only three stars? I felt the ending was a bit weak here, and it really leaves the reader hanging a bit, with one major unresolved conflict going on.

I know we don't read Murakami for beautiful sentences, but this time around the writing seemed especially banal in a way that was super distracting. Maybe I noticed it more because the story itself was yawn-inducing the entire way through; everything just seemed so half-hearted.
