A solid listen to read on audio.
The novel is about four men and one woman who grew up together in a small town in Wisconsin. The story centers around their lives post-graduation through their early 30s and how their relationships change as their lives change. The characters are well-crafted in this book, which is a good thing, since this book is more of a character study than a plot driven book, which may turn some readers off. The author so perfectly captures the milieu of rural Wisconsin that I felt a wave of nostalgia wash over me - of the dice games and cribbage, of those dark, dusty neighbourhood bars and those god awful snacks on display behind the bar, of supper clubs, brandy old fashioneds and Patsy Cline, of bonfires and renovated old mills, of tiny Lutheran churches in the middle of nowhere, of hunkering down and being enveloped in the winter's stillness, and of a feeling of being attached to the land. A really great story about five friends living in a small Wisconsin town named Little Wing. Told from five different points of view, one of them grows up to become a world famous rock star. Shotgun Lovesongs is a homage to the midwestern lifestyle, a love letter to the land and small towns. It is memorable, moving and packed with memories and music. Shotgun Lovesongs is the soundtrack to the lives of the people who populate this beautiful story.

Stars ? 3? 4? 5?

As a piece of literature that will stand the test of time ? 2
What’s the book about? Friends, love and loss, midwestern life, venturing out, coming home, a little bit county, a little bit rock n roll (Sorry, couldn’t resist that.)

3.5 rounded down. The story of four friends, Kip, Lee, Henry and Ronny, who grew up in Little Wing, Wisconsin and Henry's wife Beth. The book alternates between all five perspectives and about 50 pages in I realized each chapter starts with the first initial of the character who narrates that chapter which helped clarify things quite a bit. Lee has become a famous musician, Henry runs the family farm, Kip has returned to town after a job in Chicago and Ronny was a rodeo star before a brain injur
