Doctorow is among the best storytellers out there and a master of multi-perspective narration. The March tells the story of Sherman's Civil War march through the South from the point of view of generals, slaves, soldiers, women and men. His compassion is always front and center and reading him reminds me that while the world has always been a hard place, individual kindness is what helps us to keep going. ...more
