4.5 stars. I love Grisham when he is on top of his game. The beginning was wonderful, 5 stars all the way. The middle was a little long in places. But when Grisham writes courtroom scenes, I can see and hear everything. I feel it in my gut, the way he writes it. I just love it. Ending also, five stars all the way.
I also want to add that the last 30 pages of this book are worth the price of admission. Even if you don't think courtroom thrillers are your thing, I think you should give this book a ...more

Sycamore Road is the follow-up to A Time to Kill, which was published over 20 years ago. Grisham does a nice job of getting Jake another big case, and overall, the story is interesting and moves along at a nice pace. My only complaint is that I could piece together early on where the story was headed and how it would end, which means that that was all very obvious, because I am usually clueless when it comes to figuring things out in a book.
I haven't read Grisham in well over a decade. ...more

I think it has been almost thirty years since I read A Time to Kill, so it is a little hard to compare that book with this one (a sequel). Once I started this book, I couldn't put it down, and I think it's because it was exactly what I needed after a very long Brandon Sanderson book.

Not as captivating as A Time to Kill, but it could satisfy your thirst of some legal thriller setting in Ford County (Clanton), with all the usual characters: Jake Brigance, Harry Rex, Lucien, etc etc.
The story itself is about the conflict of a weird handwritten will by one of the richest men in Ford County. It's not as action packed as A Time to Kill, because this is not a criminal case. But John Grisham is really in his elements here. Pretty nice and solid read, although not his best for sure. ...more
