I was twelve when I first read this, and like most everyone else loved it. I have (of course) seen the movie over the years. I am now settling in to re-read my original copy of this which has a delightful fold out cover and maps. I love maps. =) . I am curious to see what parts that my twelve year old self failed to grasp or merely skipped over.

This is my second encounter with this novel, the first occurring as my fifth grade teacher, Mrs. McCauley, chose The Princess Bride as one of her read aloud novels for the school year. I remember, even now almost 30 years later, my feelings as she read of Inigo and Fezzik approaching the door to the 5th level in the zoo and knowing what was awaiting them. Love this book. Also, to be honest, for the longest time (til 12th grade), I thought there really was an S. Morgenstern and that Goldman really did major work to make a 'good parts' version.

I enjoyed this book... but I can't say that it was better than the movie. This may just be one of those rare times when I prefer the movie to the book. I'm glad that I read the book though! :)
