The Inspector & Silence the sixth book in the Van Veeteren (VV) series translated to english. I've read all prior books and have had mixed feelings of the stories.

Police Sgt. Kluuge put in charge of the Sorbinowo Police team after his boss departs for leave. Good old Nesser. The plot is interesting though not very complicated. What are liked is Van Veeteren's contemplation about his life and job. The top are the lines that make you smile (not laugh but smile :) even though the book deals with one of the gravest topics (sect, rape and murder). ...more

A religious group refuses to talk to Van Veeteren about the murders of two young girls. Naturally this silence produces little action for much of the book. At last Van Veeteren gets inspired, the last 50 pages pick up the pace, and a satisfying ending arises.
