Fast-paced and plotty, when I was into it this book was difficult to put down. Unfortunately, I didn't feel any real connection to either Nathaniel or Bartimaeus, which seriously detracted from the story for me. Even when things were moving quickly, there was still that feeling of apathy. So, while I enjoyed the story, I won't be in any hurry to pick up the next book, if I do so at all.

i just can't get enough of Bartimeus, the sharp-tongued djinn who's the main character in the book. his sarcastic words and wicked sense of humour is to die for. loved reading all the footnotes.
