I had to read this in a Spanish literature class in college and even in Spanish I loved it. Later I re-read it in English and of course like it even more. Tita's mother won't let her marry because it's a family tradition that the youngest stay and take care of the mother. Tita's love marries her sister so he can be near Tita (dumb plan, I know.) There is a folk magic aspect to the book and the power of food to express love. Way better than the movie.
