3.5 stars. Having read some of the other reviews, I tried to read this more like a stand alone, which it pretty much could be. The only real connections are the Market Garden link and the little bit of background on Nick. We know from the previous books that Nick's speciality is providing services to the kinkier clients. I have started this review a couple of times now and I still don't know what to say. Should I start with Spencer who got on my nerves with his whining or with Nick who despite all his casual attitude managed to bring out some emotions in me? I don't know. It isn't every day that I am at such odds with myself, so bear with me while I ramble and review.

As some of you may know I have loved this series so far and although this one delivers some of the elements I have come to expect from the 3.5 stars

I have started this review a couple of times now and I still don't know what to say. Should I start with Spencer who got on my nerves with his whining or with Nick who despite all his casual attitude managed to bring out some emotions in me? I don't know. It isn't every day that I am at such odds with myself, so bear with me while I ramble and review.

As some of you may know I have loved this series so far and although this one delivers some of the elements I have come to expect from these authors I can't help but be conflicted about my rating. On one hand, the story was as entertaining as ever with great BDSM and sex scenes, but on the other hand the characters were dull and their connection unbelievable.

Don't get me wrong, I liked Spencer. A lonely young man who needed to unwind and live his life to the fullest, Spencer annoyed me to no end during the times he wasn't 'playing' with Nick. I could not find a connection with him beyond wanting him to discover what he was looking for so he could just move on already. Did he find that with Nick? To an extent. Is their connection truly believable? Er, nope. Although they did share a connection while playing their scenes I don't think it was anything more than a Dom/sub relationship at play. Certainly nothing to base a relationship on. True, a relationship was not established per se, but the ending hinted that at least they were going to pursue something along those lines. Maybe if I'd had a glimpse into the different scenes that took place during the three months they trained together I could come to believe that their connection was real. However, with what was brought to the page their connection felt superficial to me.

Now Nick was another story altogether. A handsome Dom that exuded sexiness with every confident grin and command, he did come across a bit more real to me. However, since I could not get a real glimpse into his personality or what made him tick I just couldn't connect to him more than on a superficial level. He did redeem himself there in the end, but like they say it was too little too late for me to fully believe that it was real.

The concept behind the story was interesting and L.A. Witt and Aleksandr Voinov did a great job of engaging me in the story as a whole. I did enjoy the BDSM scenes and the sex was very erotic - everything I have come to expect from these authors. One of the things that surprised me the most was the fact that I got teary eyed one time. I know, I know...this shouldn't surprise me since I AM a sap, but it was at this moment that the authors redeemed themselves because that one scene had enough emotion in it to affect me and it had everything to do with the way it was brought to the page.

If It Flies is the third installment in the Market Garden series but it can be read as a stand alone. I am certainly looking forward to the next books in the series because I do so enjoy Witt and Voinov's work. Maybe this one didn't live up to my expectations, but it did not disappoint story wise. I just take my fictional characters way too seriously and need to connect to them to truly enjoy their journey.

I didn't feel any chemistry between Nick and Spencer or Spencer's developing need for submission. I felt like both men were just going through the motions. The sex scenes were well written but even though this book was longer than the other two, these MC's didn't seem as well-developed.
