This was a really sweet and fun story. Nico is soon approaching his 25th birthday when he finds out everything he thought about his parents abandoning This was a really sweet and fun story. Nico is soon approaching his 25th birthday when he finds out everything he thought about his parents abandoning him might have been wrong. Not only that, but that there are witches and a curse, and he is all but doomed unless he finds a way to stop it. So, he travels to the place it all began to search for clues.
When he gets there, he learns more about the curse and about Corbin, the man he is supposedly tied to and is very much involved in the curse as well. He meets Alastair, a young man who friends him and vows to keep him safe. Alastair is from Corbin’s coven, so he knows all about the curse and what is involved.
I loved the tone of this story. Nico doesn’t believe in magic or curses, but it doesn’t take long for him to change his tune. He has a great sense of humor throughout and I loved how open he was to his attraction to Corbin. They had a great love story and fabulous chemistry.
There is plenty of excitement and anticipation as Nico and Corbin try to find a solution and solve the mystery. Their families have quite a history and Nico is finally getting some answers, some to questions he didn’t even know he had. His family and parents played a big role even though they weren’t part of his life for very long.
I also loved all the witchy stuff here, from the folklore to the actual powers and even the curse. It had unique aspects which I found refreshing and entertaining. This was a great start to a series, but to say much more would give too much away. Suffice to say, if you like witches and fun characters with some sexy mm thrown in, be sure to give this one a try. I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to see what’s in store next. Hopefully Alastair will get to tell his story, and now what the twin issue has been straightened out, maybe he can finally get his man. Definitely recommend.
This is a rather sweet story about two Jewish men who grew up in the same community but only realize how compatible they are when they are older.
Izzy has always known what he likes and is pretty specific about what he wants in a man. He is confident and is even a bit arrogant about it, for which he makes no excuses. When he sees something, or someone, he wants, he goes for it. This has paid off in his professional life, and eventually pays of in his personal as well.
Adam, on the other hand, is a bit more shy, due, in part, to his larger size which causes most people (men) to assume he is a total top. He has hidden his submissive side, though he has no actual experience in the BDSM lifestyle.
Adam is in Izzy’s sights once again during a Jewish holiday, following which, Izzy’s parents have invited Adam’s over to dinner. Izzy makes his intentions towards Adam pretty clear, and after some initial reluctance on Adam’s part, they decide to explore things a bit more.
This story has a lot to offer. There are great BDSM dynamics, and while their roles are crystal clear, they do not fall into the same old, same old, category. They switch things up here and there, with plenty of protectiveness and intimacy to go along with it all. It has some fabulous side characters, including Izzy’s long-time PA and their now ever-present bodyguard twins, G&T, and boy would I like to get a glimpse of their story! These guys both have wonderful families, including their meddling mothers, which emphasizes the importance of family and their faith.
But what shows through the most here is how perfect these guys are for each other. Izzy is a fabulous Dom who often reminds himself of his need to take care of Adam’s needs. They go through a bit of an ordeal when Adam’s crazy ex shows up, but it only brings them closer together and strengthens their bond in the end.
While I wasn’t totally blown away by this story, it was a very enjoyable read that left me wanting to read more about the couple at hand, as well as others, and it kept me interested right to the end. I thought this was a very well done first book by Ms. Gold, and I will definitely be on the lookout for more from her in the future....more

They are somewhat famous in that their parents are celebrities with his father being a well-known author. Their parents were pretty much focused on themselves, so they spent much of their childhood on their own which only strengthened their twin bond.
Bain is gay but believes his brother is straight. He has hidden his feelings and tried to focus on their goal of becoming film directors together. Gavin, on the other hand, has hidden his secret of being gay and having feelings for Bain, going so far as to leave home to spend a year in England. Eventually, the jealousy and possessiveness takes over and they are forced to confront their feelings.
Meanwhile, others in the school have brought Gavin and Bain into their clique which has added a little mystery to the story. Their leader seems pretty shady and, in fact, does some pretty shady things, especially where Bain is concerned. But, again, this is what has also helped Gavin and Bain take that next step in their relationship.
This was not nearly as taboo or as dark as I was expecting. Yes, they are twins (which is emphasized quite a bit), but it takes a while for them to actually do anything together. I think my biggest issue here was believing in them as a couple, which started with their first time together. Bain was a total virgin – barely been kissed. So, I was expecting a more involved “first time” than what we got. When it did happen, it was almost like a slip up which quickly turned to a slip out, and that was it. There was a noticeable lack of build up or prep. I tried to chalk it up to them being bumbling teenagers, but I was definitely hoping for more.
With this being the first of the series, I’m hoping we will learn more about these two and their family, plans for the future, etc. There were a lot of unanswered questions at the end which added to the mystery, but I feel like I really don’t have much of an idea about where this story is going. I’m definitely curious to get to the next installment and see how it all plays out.
What a sweet story this was! I was expecting a somewhat typical hockey player coming out story, but this one was quite different. For starters, Bryce What a sweet story this was! I was expecting a somewhat typical hockey player coming out story, but this one was quite different. For starters, Bryce is recovering from an injury so he is taking some time away from the team. So, he actually doesn’t have any on-ice time. Hence, the title of this series – Off the Ice. LOL When he receives a Colorado orchard/farm in an inheritance, he takes the opportunity to check it out and get his mom settled in there. He is also contemplating some life changing decisions on this trip, one of which is his sexuality.
Bryce and Dakota meet by chance when Dakota helps Bryce change a tire. Their immediate attraction leads them to a night of discovery as Dakota helps Bryce out in testing his gayness. Imagine their surprise when they run into each other the next day at the lawyers’ office to handle the turning over of the property!
Dakota has had a bit of a rough life with losing parents and now losing his long-time friend who took him in and shared the orchard with him. He was a simple guy with a big heart who just needed to be loved. Unfortunately, no one is able to find an updated will leaving it all to Dakota, so he must concede the loss of his home to Bryce. But Bryce has no intention of putting Dakota out of his home.
Bryce was one of the sweetest guys I’ve read about in a long time. He made a lot of money during is career as a pro hockey player, but he was very humble. He always put others before himself, including his team and his family. He was just an all-around good guy and just a big softie. I loved being on his journey of sexual discovery as he found love and a new meaning in life and loved that Dakota fit him so perfectly.
There was very little angst involved here, aside from Bryce and his big decisions on whether to retire or not, whether to be out or not, and whether he should stay with Dakota or ask him to move with him. On Dakota’s side, there was the issue of his low-life embezzling ex, Kyle, but that issue was taken care of in short order and the story ended on a very happy and satisfying note. There were some great side characters here on both sides, from Dakota’s friends and sister, to Bryce’s ex-wife, friends/teammates and the rest of his big family, all of whom were extremely supportive of the guys and their relationship.
This was my first book by this author, and I really enjoyed it. I’ll be looking forward to continuing this series and will definitely keep my eyes open for more from A.E. in the future.
I first met and became intrigued with Hunt and Cam in On His Knees (available at Instafreebie until August 1, 2017). In that short story, we got a taste of the unique dynamic between these two complex men. Thankfully, their story is continued in Matchstick Men.
Hunter is a homicide detective who is good at his job in part because of his ability to compartmentalize and keep his emotions and feelings away from the job. Unfortunately, he believes he is incapable of having them off the job as well. He is one of the members of an elite and discreet BDSM club that caters mostly to the upperclass, but policemen, firemen, etc. are given membership in return for their services. Hunter is also a bit of a switch in that he doms most of the time (with women), but he subs for men when he needs particular things. Up until recently, he has never truly submitted to anyone, but that all changed the day he gave his all and went to his knees for Cam (in On His Knees). That was an amazing and unique thing to see, and I highly recommend you start there. Anyhoo, with Cam, he was able to truly submit, with Cam being the only one who ended up knowing what he really needed and was able to provide it.
Cam, on the other hand, is all Dom. He is a professional skier (younger than Hunter), but he really seems to have it all together. He has a maturity, especially when dealing with Hunter, but there are times we are reminded that he is still a young 20-something. These guys have some crazy chemistry going on, and while they definitely have a d/s relationship, it is anything but typical. These guys have shared some of the hottest scenes I’ve read in a long time. Hunter makes his misgivings known, and they move forward with a friends with benefits arrangement, though it is easy to see their feelings growing into more. These are complex men that, while they both might not see it yet, are intricate puzzle pieces that just fit together perfectly.
There are a few other things at play here, from the title and how it correlates to the story, to the murder and how it is connected to Hunter and the club. As Hunter tries to figure things out, he uses Cam as a sounding board. I loved that we were shown the answers to the matchstick puzzles at the end of the story and the history behind the name as well. We learned quite a bit more about these guys than we did in the previous story, but it still didn’t feel like enough. I read this in one sitting and was extremely disappointed when I reached the end. These guys definitely have unfinished business, and since it ends on a rather up-in-the-air note, I would probably have to classify it as a cliffhanger. All I know is that I can’t wait for their story to continue and hope we don’t have to wait too long. Highly recommend....more

The cast is getting pretty big, but it isn’t too hard to follow along and understand the connections, though there are quite a few of those as well. Nathan’s twin brother, Brody, is partnered with two men, one of which is the son of Dom Baretti. Vincent’s bff, ex-POTUS, Everett, was in love with Vincent’s now deceased brother. Everett’s estranged son now works for the Baretti clan. While, this story is about Nathan and Vincent, the connections play important roles.
Nathan is running for Senator after having made a complete u-turn and switching parties. He and Brody grew up with very religious nutjob parents who denounced anything gay as immoral and a sin having surely been lured by the devil. When Brody came out to Nathan, he was still under the heavy influence of his father’s beliefs and didn’t handle things well. He has likewise been in heavy denial about his own sexuality, but it isn’t really front and center until recently. Meanwhile, he has made some enemies and is now under some sort of attack by an unknown stalker. A favor is called in to protect Brody’s brother, and that is where Vincent comes into play.
Vincent has not had it easy either. He lost his first and only love to suicide when the military and government turned their backs on them, and he’s made plenty of enemies along the way in his line of mercenary/assassin work. So, he lives his life in the here and now believing someone could come for him at any time. He is reluctant to take on the task of protecting Nathan, someone who represents everything Vincent despises. But, it doesn’t take long for the sparks to fly between these two. Vincent awakens something in Nathan he has fought much of his life to ignore – that he is, indeed, gay.
What ensues is the men exploring each other and their explosive chemistry while they try to discern the identity of the stalker. Vincent realizes there is much more to Nathan that what he learned in his own recon, though he insists there is no chance of a future for them. Things happen fast in this story. Much of it takes place over the span of a week (i.e. the instalove/instalust), and once the stalker finally makes a move, things are wrapped up pretty quickly. Regardless, it was interesting and exciting and filled with lots of steamy sex and tender moments. These stories have become my guilty pleasure, and I know I can count on them delivering just what I need. There are a few more that have been set up at the end of this, and I can’t wait to see them unfold. Definitely recommend.
3.5 stars - This sounded like a slightly taboo, slightly kinky rich kid/poor kid story, and it was, but not nearly as much as I was expecting. Brett a 3.5 stars - This sounded like a slightly taboo, slightly kinky rich kid/poor kid story, and it was, but not nearly as much as I was expecting. Brett and Lan were stepbrothers for about a year and a half back when they were in high school. Lan’s mom was a career gold digger who managed to land Brett’s dad. Back then, Lan thought Brett was nothing more than a spoiled rich kid and a royal pain in his side.
Fast forward about ten years, and Brett walks back into Lan’s life, still a spoiled rich kid who becomes an even bigger pain in his side. Brett was a master manipulator who was used to getting what he wanted, and now he wants Lan…to punish him, make him behave, take control, etc., mostly in the form of spankings.
Lan has quite a few issues going on. He carries an extreme amount of guilt over the way his mother lives, going from one rich guy to the next and caring little about anything. He lives day to day, not taking anything from anyone or letting anyone close. He ekes out a living playing dive bars in a band, refurbishing and reselling used music equipment, and spending the bare minimum on essentials, like food, clothing, etc. He is happy living this way, being his own boss, and not needing things, or so he believes.
Brett is the proverbial spoiled brat, which was quite annoying at times, but his persistence paid off. Equally as annoying was the constant inner dialog arguments Lan had about everything. But, as these two spent time together, it was easy to see Brett making headway until the final aha moment where Lan realized he wanted something after all – someone who cared about and was just happy being with him. Brett showed him that it was ok to want or enjoy things, and Lan was able to give Brett (who had anything he wanted but just wanted to be with Lan) what he needed to be focused and content. Although there were a few unanswered questions, and could have used an epilogue, there was a lot that felt could have been pared down without losing much of the story. Still, if you add the dirty talking, slightly slappy kinky sex, it was a rather enjoyable read.

He is the main focus of the regret theme here, stemming from his initial interactions with Brin in high school when Brin tutored him. I won’t give too much away, but suffice to say, things didn’t end well with the two of them.
Fast forward 11 years, and Nick happens to be the roommate of Brin’s friend and coworker. Brin and Nick meet again when Brin stays at their apartment while his is being renovated from a flood. Needless to say, old feelings, both good and bad, still exist between the two. They needed to clear the air, and once they did, or once Nick explained a bit about what was going on with him back then, the sparks were able to ignite with them once again.
Poor Nick had so much going on. From the loss of his sister and then father, guilt over each and the ensuing grief of his mother, guilted into running his father’s business, of which he has little to no interest, guilt over what happened with Brin, etc. He spends much of this story beating himself up about everything and how he didn’t deserve anything good. It was easy to see where it was all coming from, but it did get a bit frustrating or tiresome at times.
Brin had some regrets of his own. He was harboring feelings of being a disappointment to his father, for not being the son his brother apparently was, being gay, being a dog groomer, etc. They eventually get past some of these things or make progress in the right direction.
It wasn’t all doom and gloom though. As Brin and Nick moved past the explanation stage, they shared many sexy and caring moments as they explored their relationship further than they ever had in high school. There were some things that seemed a bit over the top, such as the coincidence of their reunion, the grudge Brin held, etc. But, it was a nicely paced story that kept my attention and rooting for them to work things out. It ends on a positive note, though I wish there had been more of a solid ending with perhaps an epilogue showing how things are going. Perhaps their story will continue in the next installment.
P.S. Golden Retrievers rule, and Tally was no exception. 🙂
