You are your own worst critic. With that in mind...
Darkhouse isn't high-brow literature, it's not going to change the world (yet), and yeah, there are one or two typos in the book. But, considering it's the first book in the series, it is what is. A "pilot episode" that introduces two characters, Perry Palomino and Dex Foray, who will vex, challenge and intrigue you from this book onwards. Darkhouse has some tense, creepy moments - not only with regards to the supernatural (including a "dead" li ...more

t took me about 20% into this book before I got hooked, and boy did I ever. I immediately purchased the next 4 books in the series, and I’m awaiting the 6th book now. I have recommended this book to a ton of my friends.
The book starts out with an innocent bonfire and some exploration by our main girl Perry….little did she know who or what she was going to find……
“Somehow, by dealing with the dead, I had never felt so alive.”
While Perry is on her adventures she runs into Dex. Dex is scouting out ...more

Review 12/31 - I have since read this book (series) 2 times. Karina Halle is a genius author. If you aren't reading EIT what the heck are you waiting for?

I was lucky enough to read a preview of this book and was captivated by the mystery and suspense throughout the story. I am looking forward to reading it again when I get my hard copy in the mail. The fact that this is the first book of many makes me happy because the characters are too good for just one story.
Edited 2/28/12: I just reread this book because I finally have the chance to continue the series and wanted to refresh my memory with the first book and reintroduce Perry and Dex. Perry is ...more

Wonderful book and excellenty written! The scariest things are the ones don't really see; you feel this, see a glipse of that... Your mind takes it from there and usually takes you places to scare the crap out of you in ways that no scene that is well described (or shown in the case of movies) can. I found that in this book. Lots of implied evils, but the lack of all details takes to you the edge of it could be...XXX, or it coudl be XX...

Well, my finger slipped and I lost my three paragraphs of review.
I liked it. I related to the main character, Perry. To a degree, I understood some of her "partner in crime" Dex.

Yes, I will admit I am a sucker for those free books on Amazon. So, when this book crossed my path and I saw that it was free, I snatched it up. I wouldn’t consider it my ‘typical’ genre based on what I had been reading, so it stayed on my TR shelf for a while. Along comes October and I decide I wanted something to get me in the Halloween spirit. I took another look at Darkhouse, checked out some of the rave reviews, and decided to give it a go.

In the first installment of Karina Halle's Experiment in Terror series Darkhouse, we meet Perry Palomino, who has a boring job as a receptionist at an advertising agency til she decides one fateful night to explore her uncle's haunted lighthouse. She meets Dex Foray and becomes an internet sensation, turning her life upside down. This book will grab you and drag you into the story of Perry and Dex and not let you go. This is definitely a must read for fans of paranormal romance!

After reading this book I have to say I am now hooked on Dex and Perry, their characters and their relationship. I normally do not read books in this genre but I decided to give this book a chance and was pleasantly surprised.
I found that I instantly related to Perry and her personality. Reading and relating to a character that makes you feel like you actually know this person in real life brings reading a book to a different level.

I wanted to love this book from the moment that I started reading it, but I didn't. I couldn't "get in" to Perry. There was something about her that made me just not really get her. I especially didn't get her attraction to Dex. What, if any, traits did this guy have that could possibly draw her to him? He was rude and distant... oh wait now I get it... Perry suffers from the same syndrome suffered by many a girl. We are insecure (evidenced by the frequent references to her weight) and are someh

First off I want to thank Haley at the Ya-Aholic book blog for hosting a giveaway for this series, which I won! And, I would also like to thank Karina for sending me the books and other great stuff!!
Secondly, I loved this book!!!! I thought they would be good, since I read a lot of great things about it, but they were so much better then I thought. I'm so happy I read this!! I love Perry!! She's awesome. She feels so relatable: The way she talks about her past and how hard life has been for her through her experiences with drugs, weight issues, her current job and having no purpose. She makes no excuses for her past and I really liked that about her! Dex, well what can, I say he really threw Perry for a loop! He's odd and mysterious. I can just image how he looks with his maniac face. There's so much more to find out about him and his conn
