One of the great classic SF novels of all time. Nobody who loves or works in the genre should fail to read this.

I want to read this but have been reluctant due to the similarities I see between it and my Millennium Man series. I certainly don't want to feel influenced by it, but I won't be able to resist its allure forever.

tl;dr -- Interesting start, disappointing finish, but I might be too dumb to understand this book.

I'm going to need to read several other reviews to understand the numerous meanings behind this book because I suspect I'm too far removed from the culture it was written in or completel

"Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

This book fell flat for me. There were moments that I really liked and moments that I didn't care about and was bored, continuously thinking, how many more words do you need to use to convey a cliche message. Maybe the reason is that I read and watched a lot of works that talk about post-apocalyptic world - either right after the nuclear war or centuries later. Maybe A Canticle for Leibowitz was one of the first books to examine this
