Decided finally to listen to the audiobook (preferably while working out). Classic sci-fi so many people seem to love while others hate. It also spurs on political discussions galore so I chose to see for myself what all the fuss is about. And, oh boy...

I neither liked it nor disliked it. I had hoped for an action packed adventure story with lot of war strategy and some cool aliens. What I got instead were lectures on why war is necessary for humankind, why it is okay to kill aliens blah blah. Also he spends more than half of the book on military training and discipline, rather than on the actual war. There is no world building either. It was SO boring and a snoozefest. Heinlein really achieves something here- to be so boring yet so controversial. Sections of this are written quite well, but in no way does this succeed as a novel.
Will happily toss myself into ‘not the target audience’ and move on.
If I ever have kids and need a reminder to beat them, I’ll request this from the library.
