This book was my first introduction to Sanderson and suffice to say I cannot wait to read more from him. The world building in this novel was quite unique from anything I have ever read. I loved the mystery surrounding the once god-like city of Elantris that succumbs to sickness and ruin. The grotesque description of the slime and debris on the streets was fantastic.

I enjoyed the different perspectives as well. Sarene is a complete bad-ass that makes me want to take up fencing. (view spoiler)

I "read" this as an audio book during different trips in the car so in some respects it was a bit more of a disjointed read than it should have otherwise been - however with that being said, this like all the other books by Brandon Sanderson is simply excellent. The premise is new and interesting and how the story progresses is excellent. I'd love to know if there is a sequel to it as there is quite a bit more that can be added to the universe and I really look forward to reading it if it ever i ...more
