The first time I encountered Dune was while watching the miniseries on the Sci Fi channel while vacationing on Clear Lake, a place I do not recommend because there is nothing to do there except watch TV and laze around next to a lake that's not all that clear...

Can't believe I only read this now. It is simply a classic. I really wish I didn't have so much to read, otherwise I would just devour the second one immediately.

Note, not a review. Shortly after beginning this book, my father was hospitalized, then released under hospice care, and subsequently died about 3.5 weeks ago. It was a struggle to make myself read more than a "chapter" or two at a time. This is why it took me so long to read the book.
This book will forever be associated with my father's passing. Not sure I will ever return to re-read due to this. ...more
