Ursula Le Guin made fantasy history with "A Wizard of Earthsea," a spare but strangely entrancing story about a young wizard coming of age. Despite a rather distant writing style, Le Guin's story is still a classic that is generally put on the same shelf as Lewis and Tolkien.

This book was a struggle for me. First of all, TERRIBLE names. Then, the amount of wordy, boring description. Yuck. I skipped over many lengthly unimportant paragraphs. And while this is not too long of a read, I just dreaded picking it up every time I was set to read. Even the story wasn't engaging to me.

Had a hard time sleeping this morning because I needed to wake up and find out how Ged battled the Shadow. And then it was so ... let's just say this book had FAR more actual substance than expected.
