This is the final book in the series & it did sum everything up nicely - too nicely. Butcher is just too attached to some of his characters. This is a great series, I really enjoyed it, enjoyed the characters, etc., etc. But there's a but.

I think it would be so much better if it were half the length.

Loved the first 3, probably 4. Five and six just became a bit of a rough slog for me. It might be that, (1) it was relatively forgettable, but also, (2) maybe it's just me and I'm getting tired of very traditional fantasy.

And this is very traditional fantasy. It's well-done and enjoyable, but I think it just wore me down after a while.

I really liked this book and burned through it in one day. Its hard to talk about the novel because it was a conclusion of a six book series in which the earlier books were much better, but all of the story lines were concluded satisfactory.

That being said, I felt that Tavi, who is the focus of most of the story was basically off page for more than half of the book, as the author tried to tie up the loose ends involving some of the other characters. That is a minor quibble. Also some of the inve

Second read...This was a fine finish to the Codex Alera series. All my favorite characters manage to survive (more or less), and the ending is happy but not so perfect as to be unbelievable. The bad guys get what they deserve! As with every other book in the series, it's a roller coaster ride of action. I was left with a good book hangover--happy with the ending but not wanting it to end.
