The story on it's own was fun, but the story telling was marvelous. Some people just know how to tell a tale and Neil Gaiman is one of them. I wasn't super taken in by any of the characters and the magical element was cool but nothing extraordinary. ...more

After finishing American Gods, with it's epic aspirations and shifting, though ultimately serious tone, it was a relief to turn to Anansi Boys to see the same author adapt the premise of gods among us in an entire different vein. Anansi Boys is funny, almost silly and ultimately sentimental in it's approach to healing family rifts and past slights. I had a blast reading this and it moved quickly. Wow, this certainly had a different tone than American Gods. While I enjoyed the humor in this book and appreciated the characters, the plot just never gripped me quite like the first book. It was good; it just wasn't great. ...more
