There is a heck of a lot of world-building in this book. I'm not saying that is a bad thing, because I love a good world (for heaven's sake, I enjoyed Tolkien) and this is a good world. One of the blurbs on the back described it as "swashbuckling" and I think that's a wonderful description. There are gangs, there are pirates, thieves and con-artists, shark-fights and mysterious gods and historical beings. It is a far more unique and interesting universe than most, and I enjoyed it.

It started a little slow for me, but there's a point in the first act where everything came together and became amazing.
