What Members Thought

This is one of my favourite modern fantasy books. It's rather witty and a little clever. Entertaining characters, daring cons and exciting swordplay. The reread proved as good as I remember if somewhat shorter (but isn't that always the case?) The narration on the audio book was excellent. Good times were had by all.

Once I got going I had to finish it in a couple of marathon sessions. Great world, interesting characters (thought Lynch killed off my favorites far too soon), and just enough magic to keep things interesting.

First of all, this review is for the audiobook version.
Pros:
Fantastic worldbuilding, witty dialog, fast paced, great characters.

I first read this 15 years ago, when it came out. I wasn't sure it would hold up but it absolutely did. The machinations and the clever ideas were pulled off with aplomb.

A long story about a young boy, about 5 when we first meet him, who is already a very accomplished thief. Apparently untrained, he hides himself within a group of orphans being rescued and gets adopted into a small tribe of professional-thieves-in-training.
Tough well-written, with the chapters being juxtaposed between young Locke and older Locke, or Locke in full thief mode then a chapter of the prep for that event, the chapters are too spread out. It's as if the author is afraid of boring his r ...more
