What Members Thought
People say that The Stand is King's definitive work - the monument to his genius as an author, his Magnum Opus. But I can't help comparing it to his other monster of a book, written sometime later - It, - and find it diminishing in its splendour. The quality of writing is top notch, but still does not evoke imagery as vivid and terrifying. The characters have their distinctive voices, but again, not as developed and complex. What I read of this I'm rating 2 stars. That was the first 25% I was going to come back and finish this book but I keep looking at it and I think "Yeah, I don't give a fuck, actually" Life is short and I have a lot of other stuff to read.
File it under maybe one day - but I honestly doubt that I'll ever be revisiting King's writing ...more
