Per total, un roman ok. Nu te ține cu sufletul la gură, nu are un detectiv - personaj central pe care să-l placi sau să-l antipatizezi, nici măcar nu are o poveste polițistă foarte bună în spate. Însă are un atuu forte: contextul - sf, distopic, care pune povestea în perspectivă și dă greutate motivațiilor și acțiunilor personajelor. Shelves: audiobook, crime-and-thriller, sci-fi, apocalyptic-dystopian

I thoroughly enjoyed this fusion of 2 different genres. Two of my favourite things, Apocalyptic fiction mashed-up with a Crime Thriller. What is not to like?

And it worked perfectly for me. Neither element by itself is particularly unique or original but add the two parts together and you end up with something better than the constituent parts.

The crime story reminded me very much of the work of many of my favourite authors and our protagonist is very much in the mould of a Harry Bosch. A detect ...more

I was really intrigued by the concept and it started off okay. However it was ultimately disappointing. I went from thinking potential 4 stars, to 3 stars to at best 2.5. There are just too many inconsistencies. The police work and the behavior of the cops, Palace included, is just erratic. (Case in point: the questioning of J.J Toussaint.)
