We all have those books that we read that we can hardly put down, the ones that consume our thoughts when we aren't reading them and stay with us long after we have finished them. The ones that ruin all other books for us because, they will never be as good as the one we just put down. This book? This book was that book for me.
I had read other reviews about this book, saw lots of 5 star ratings and thought to myself, "oh no, not another one of those books that will never live up to all the hype. ...more

Ahem... well, this is awkward. This book was highly recommended to me. You would not imagine the amount of people that assured me I would love it and I thank you for your recommendation, because you were right, the book is good, but I did not love it. I really didn't.

I made a review on this book were I said I loved it and that it was so awesome and stuff, but, as hard as it is to admit it, I wasn't being honest :/ I felt bad posting a review that said the contrary of what everyone else was sayin ...more

I loved this book. I can't tell you how many ways I loved this book. Let's talk about Anna she has a pleasant voice that makes the book very easy to read. I also loved the way there was subtle Nicholas Sparks bashing throughout the story. Okay, so I loved The Notebook, but after awhile his books grow repetitive and depressive just like Anna's dad's work . I read Anna and the French Kiss way back when I was a relatively new blogger. When Cuddlebuggery and a few other blogs announced that they were doing a read along of the first to books in Stephanie Perkins And Trilogy (I refuse to call it the Anna trilogy since she’s only the lead in one novel) I couldn’t help but get out the embarrassing covers that make up these books and enjoy them again. I read Anna and the French Kiss way back when I was a relatively new blogger. When Cuddlebuggery and a few other blogs announced that they were doing a read along of the first to books in Stephanie Perkins And Trilogy (I refuse to call it the Anna trilogy since she’s only the lead in one novel) I couldn’t help but get out the embarrassing covers that make up these books and enjoy them again. Funny thing is, you forget a lot of things from your first reading experience. And I found a lot of things about Anna that I had sort of forgot about-both good and both bad. For this revisit, I thought I’d list the top ten things I forgot about this book:

10) Macaroons: I forgot that this book featured the tasty treat. And this book was what sort of got me on my foodie quest to have macaroons. And they’re gluten free. That makes them even better.

9) Boarding School Can be Fun: I haven’t read a book set in boarding school in awhile. Let’s face it, most of them are boring and cliche. You either get something like Gossip Girl but with school uniforms and dorm rooms or there’s some evil spirit haunting the campus and only the New Mary Sue can fight the evil. However, Anna’s depiction of boarding school is fairly realistic.

8) Movie Mentions: Being a film buff myself I was checking out just how many movies that Anna read. Surprisingly, I have seen a lot more since I originally read this book (probably because I put them on my list).

7) St. Clair: I forgot how funny and infuriating a character he can be. I’ve read various things about this guy in other reviews. And it’s always mixed. I happen to fall into the like category. Though upon reread I starting to think I prefer Cricket to Etienne (though ask me next week after I reread Lola to be sure). I think what I like the best about St. Clair though is that he is such a complex character. But yeah, there were a couple (okay, a lot) of moments I wanted to deck him.

6) Multiple Relationships: Though it can get a bit Days Of Our Lives-ish I do like the fact that there are multiple relationships, hookups, quasi hookups, and breakups in this book. Let’s face it, teenagers usually aren’t as monogamous as YA makes them to be. Though the Days of Our Lives stuff did start getting a little annoying towards the end.

5) Nicholas Sparks Bashing: Because anyone who bashes those books gets a gold star in my book. For all you fans of The Notebook, it’s not that movie’s fault. It’s that movie where Richard Gere dies in a mudslide-too ridiculous and cliche for words. And for that matter, who kills poor Mandy Moore. That’s just wrong. ...more

Anna’s father is a well known author, and with that comes the idea (since he’s rich and all) of sending Anna to boarding school – in Paris. Now to think getting to study in Paris is an amazing experience, but not to Anna. She feels like she’s leaving her entire life in Atlanta and venture into the unknown.

But lo and behold, things seem to work out for her after all. Getting shipped off to Paris wasn’t as bad as she thought. She makes new friends, eats great food, explores the wonderful city, an Anna’s father is a well known author, and with that comes the idea (since he’s rich and all) of sending Anna to boarding school – in Paris. Now to think getting to study in Paris is an amazing experience, but not to Anna. She feels like she’s leaving her entire life in Atlanta and venture into the unknown.

But lo and behold, things seem to work out for her after all. Getting shipped off to Paris wasn’t as bad as she thought. She makes new friends, eats great food, explores the wonderful city, and befriends swoon-worthy, Etienne St. Claire. Too bad he has a girlfriend, and Anna is somewhat “unavailable” as well.

While things might be getting bad over at Atlanta, she find comfort in hanging out with St. Claire. Gladly he feels likewise, but with this comes the growing feeling of falling in love with the already-taken best friend. And as Anna tries to fight off her feelings for St. Claire, he somehow makes it even harder...

I never thought I’d find myself enjoy a contemporary chic lit novel this much. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy chic literatures now and then but I never found them as lovable as Anna and the French Kiss. It’s so cute and light that it makes me mushy. I have no idea why it is a wonderful story, it just is!

There are several things that made this book work for me: I admire Anna for trying to do the right thing. She doesn’t want to be the girl that a guy cheats with over their girlfriends. I like the idea that St. Claire isn’t the tall, dark, handsome dude that has been the stereotype over male leads. The idea of being in Paris is just divine! *sigh* Who doesn’t want to experience touring Paris, right?

Anna and St. Claire’s story just proves that love really does happen in so many forms. You can’t settle for the images of a love story that you, yourself formulated on your own. When it happens, it happens... and it’s your choice whether to take the leap or not.

Anna and the French Kiss is the epitome of a cheesy chick flick – there’s the romantic setting (Paris), a protag looking to fit in (Anna), the hot but unfortunately unavailable best friend (St. Claire), and then there’s the ever beautiful girlfriend of the best friend. Come to think of it, there’s nothing really new to this book... BUT Stephanie Perkins sure knows how to turn a simple story to an all out beautiful, tickled pink tale.

Anna and the French Kiss

I haven't read in a couple of months anymore but as soon as I grabbed this book from my loads of unread books, I just knew I couldn't stop reading when Etienne St. Claire was there. The characters in the book are just so amazing, they blow your mind. They're all funny and all interesting and very different from one another. I've visited Paris 4 times now and it's one of my favourite cities...I'm so happy I could re-live those memories...Trust me...every1 gawks when seeing The Notre Dame amazing structure ...it's breath-taking

Cross-culture communication should be taken very seriously! It's the Best example of cultural diversity and God! the same gesture in one culture means friendship and in other love !! I mean Étienne St. Clair bought Anna a love poetry book (and said that I want to give it to you and by anyways you will have to buy it for school next year too) and Anna took it as face value a friend gifting a book to her but what St.Clair wanted her to read from that gesture was that he liked her more than a frien ...more
