What Members Thought

Fun, but not as wonderful I was lead to believe by the fan groups of this series. I especially felt that we could have done without the "expelliamus" Potter style incantations in something that was trying to be quite dark in places. For me, it couldn't quite make up its mind where it fit - dark adult detective/horror, YA/Harry Potter, or Adams/Pratchett territory, and it just missed on all counts.
Still in two minds whether to carry on with the series. ...more

I have heard so many raving reviews for Dresden and almost as many totally opposite review. I wasn't sure what to expect going in. Especially after hearing that the series gets good after 3 to 6 books.....that's a little scary! I like a book to grab me right out of the gate.
I liked Harry; he isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination and he is snarky, which I love. I didn't love the book, but I did enjoy it. It just didn't grab me. I will read more into the series. ...more

A great introduction to a fun urban fantasy series. It has the same kind of cheeky humor and eyebrow raising innuendos I find so enjoyable in Gail Carriger’s Parasol Protectorate books.

I'm so happy to have finally started this series! There were several books on the TBR list when I got the first nine Dresden Files books, but everything else can wait - I've been wanting to read these since 2007.
One book into the series, I'm not disappointed. I love Harry Dresden and his world. Jim Butcher gave life to a great character. When I finished this last night, I went straight into the next book in the series, but I forced myself to go to bed after a few pages.

Harry Dresden - Wizard PI
Works as a consultant with the police, first job is to help with the murders of two people whose hearts had exploded from there bodies.
He also has a private client who wants help locating her husband.
Other characters introduced along the way include Bob, a talking skull.
A very enjoyable read and a good start to the series.
