I am hooked on these. Harry Dresden is one of my new very favorite characters of all time. Mixing the Nevernever, paranormal, present day, action, adventure and humor I am plowing through these with abandon. Harry is one of a kind with his haunted past, his sense of humor and his oddball bunch of friends. These include Mister, his Garfield-sized cat, Bob, his research helper spirit who lives in a human skull, Murphy the adorable (but don't tell her) hard-bitten Special Investigations officer, an ...more

Fun, but not as wonderful I was lead to believe by the fan groups of this series. I especially felt that we could have done without the "expelliamus" Potter style incantations in something that was trying to be quite dark in places. For me, it couldn't quite make up its mind where it fit - dark adult detective/horror, YA/Harry Potter, or Adams/Pratchett territory, and it just missed on all counts.

Still in two minds whether to carry on with the series.

Just as much fun as the first time!

I originally wondered at the less than stellar ratings for this book as it was pure entertainment for me. Although I was better able to see the chinks in the writing armor this second time around, I still found myself enjoying the story immensely!

A great introduction to a fun urban fantasy series. It has the same kind of cheeky humor and eyebrow raising innuendos I find so enjoyable in Gail Carriger’s Parasol Protectorate books. ...more

I just re-read Storm Front, after first reading it - well, I don't even know how many years ago! Shortly after it was first released, I think.

Now, it's important to know that I simply don't re-read books. I find that too boring, most of the time. There are a scant few exceptions. The Liaden Universe books by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller are the most remarkable of them. The fact that I would even consider a re-read speaks very, very highly of Butcher's work.

I'd forgotten far more than I expected,

Harry Dresden - Wizard PI

Works as a consultant with the police, first job is to help with the murders of two people whose hearts had exploded from there bodies.

He also has a private client who wants help locating her husband.

Other characters introduced along the way include Bob, a talking skull.

A very enjoyable read and a good start to the series.
