WW II LITE - HALF THE FACTS, ALL THE ROMANCE!
The perfect account of the French resistance for the soccer moms out there, who don't, like, have time to read, like, quality books. Soccer moms will find this one, like, amazing! I mean, really, WHO has time to, like, read boring history?!

Thanks again to the Ford Audiobook Club for providing its members with a complimentary copy of The Nightingale. This book dealt with a part of world history that I knew little about, the Nazi invasion of France during WWII. Although there have been countless books written on WWII The Nightingale is unique in that it is one of the few that focus on the women's efforts during the war not as military personnel but rather on the Homefront as part of the grassroots effort to defeat the brutal German

One family. Two women. One war. This story of the French Resistance in WWII embeds the reader in the lives of 2 French sisters who dealt with the Occupation in very different ways -- sometimes in conflict one with another despite their common goal to survive and defeat the enemy. This book took me a while to get into but then I loved it. It's probably one of the best historical fiction books I've ever read. It really helped me understand what life was like for people during WWII. Reading about the food shortages made me feel guilty for every piece of food that I threw out. The story of the two sisters was amazing. I just wished that Vianne didnt have such low self-esteem.

This book is so important in so many ways. It's the story of two sisters in German-occupied France during WWII, when survival, even for those not directly targeted, was an accomplishment in and of itself. But these women did more, so much more and although, "there were no parades for [women] when it was over, no medals or mentions in history books," this book is a tiny acknowledgment of "them" (page 436). One of my new favorites (even though it is so, so sad) and a must-read.
