What Members Thought

I give up. I fuckin' give up.
After four weeks of struggling through this book, I've decided life is too short.
How it ever became a beloved classic is beyond me.
I tried so hard: I trudge, trudged, and trudged through the pages, laden with Tolkien's flowery prose and bogged down in descriptions and details. It was painful. Very painful.
I did watch the movies years ago and loved them much.
I enjoyed reading the Hobbit... it was smooth sailing.
Perhaps, I'd try the audio book (I'm I not merciful?)

I'm so glad I came back to this book! Tolkien is great at creating such a rich world full of timeless characters.

I would pay 50 bucks to see offshoot TV shows based around some characters from this book. Bill Ferny, who betrays the hobbits to the black riders and then sells them a sickly pony at three times its value, could star as Relic in a remake of The Beachcombers.
Tom Bombadil is an interesting character. He should host a late 70s magazine style show from the UK aimed at telling children what they can do with dirt.
