I am very happy that Tale of Two Cities was my first Dickens because I think that if I had started here I would have missed some of the beautiful language trying to get at the familiar story. A Christmas Carol is a christmas classic for a reason. I just wish that I had been able to read it without automatically thinking of several of the characters as muppets.

The classic Christmas story...almost as good as the George C. Scott version of the movie, which I have seen so many times I can recite it!

I couldn't finish listening to Jim Dale's version. It was good, but distracting. I kept trying to recognize the different voices he used as characters from Harry Potter. ...more

I picked this up expecting something different. I've seen hundred's of movie versions of this book. I was surprised to learn that most of those movies have quoted this book line for line in some spots. It was an easy read and I enjoyed using my own imagination to create the characters. It's a very vivid story and I can see why all the movies have stuck pretty close to the book. Why mess with perfection. I could easily see reading this becoming a Christmas tradition. ...more
