It was interesting to me to think about my perspective and perception of the book as read through much of it with out any background knowledge, then later learning that it was a true story! What an interesting story to write about for a first time introduction into a new genre (nonfiction novel.)

Although I was offended at hearing much of the language (I usually listen to books on tape...), I was grateful that Capote did a good job of making these characters "real," and also I was grateful he did

This book is a rare fusion of the genres of literary and thriller and it can be regarded as a masterly example of either one. The prose is elegant and concise and the dialogue is real. You learn from the musings of Hickock and Smith just how comfortable they are with murder. Capote uses a much taught technique in creative writing classes; show-don't tell. You never really know why Hickock and Smith killed the Clutters the way they did for just forty dollars.
