What Members Thought

Truman Capote's writing was excellent and I'm glad I finally sampled it. The attention to detail and the extensive research that was obviously done combined to make you feel you knew all the major participants in the story. I do feel though that I've read more compelling creative nonfiction. I also can't see the apparent fascination with this particular crime, then or now. I suppose this book was a first of its kind and for that I give it full marks but I guess crime fiction is just not for me.

Let me start this of by pointing out that this is simply not my genre. I find crime interesting but I am very picky about writing style. I would have expected Capote to use a different style but this read as boring and bland fiction. You know who done it, you know why, you know how, almost from the beginning but it drags on and on.
If you like true crime give it a shot but I think it is best I stick with other things.
