Just finished re-reading this book and I had to give it 5 stars! I also had to wonder what was the reason that it didn't impress me when I read it the first time.
The story is about Mary Yellan, who lost her mother - her last relative, searching for a new home with her aunt at Jamaica inn - a lonely house located on the Cornwell moor. Her introduction and description of characters blew me away, however the storytelling and plot was not as strong making the first half of the book much better than the rest. Dark and moody much like Wuthering Heights.
