What Members Thought
I know you're not supposed to judge a book by its cover but I confess, the cover art is what drew me to this book. It's just wonderfully cool. I never did read a plot summary before buying a copy, just knew I had to have it. The story did live up to its artwork, fortunately. Creative mixture of period piece, romance, strong female lead character, and dragons. What more could a girl ask for? Oh yeah! A sequel. Have to get my hands on that one soon.

4.5 stars. Alternate universe Victorian era plus dragons. Lady Trent is a biologist who studies the dragon species in an era when such occupations were reserved for men. I thoroughly enjoyed this.
so, i have mixed feelings. i think i really liked it. but the end left me cold, even though i saw it coming from almost the beginning.
Thoroughly enjoyed this one. Excellently read. Budding scholar on a foreign expedition to study dragons, pseudo-historical atmosphere with just the right amount of the fantastical mixed in.
I listened to the audiobook. The narrator wasn't my favorite, but was ok. I felt like the story was overly sentimental and sappy. I only finished it because it was the only audiobook I had at the time. I do wish I'd been able to see the illustrations in the print book. So, like the rating says, this was just ok, not bad, not great, just ok.

Quick and interesting read.
We didn't actually pick this for book club, but we almost did so I had already ordered it from the library. Since I'm a big fan of historical romances, the style charmed me, and I liked the reminiscing conceit. Will definitely get the next.
