What Members Thought

I found the political theory and logistics of the revolution positively brilliant. However, I felt that natural deterioration of the English language expressed here kind of shot the characterization in the foot. Even though I understand and respect Heinlein's reasoning for incorporating this in the book, as a consequence, I felt no emotional attachment to any of the characters whatsoever. Other than that, very well thought out and an interesting read.

I've always been a big fan of Heinlein since I was young and I truly enjoyed works like "Stranger in a Strange Land" and "Have Suit, Will Travel." This work is the best of Robert Heinlein with great characters, hard science and the rapid-fire eclectic phrases and jingoisms aren't as annoying as other books. An excellent book to read and try not to get hooked too quickly.

I think the ideas expressed in this one are among his best - as good as Stranger in a Strange Land, but a different angle - but the writing style (slangy pseudo-Russian stream of consciousness - not as well done as A Clockwork Orange) was distracting. It was close enough to standard English that you "get used to it" but every time I picked up the book after a pause I had to get into it again.

Classic sci-fi from one of the genre's best writers.
