I enjoyed this very much, it kept my attention during the read. What would a society look like if it was made up of politician poets? It is told from the outsider point of view, a double outsider, an ambassador who's xenophilia estranges her from her own world, and who comes to realize that she will not fit into the world of her studies. Very thoughtful (and also suspenseful and action-packed) book about empire, about memory, about identity and soul, and about language and culture and exoticness. A lot to digest after a delicious read.

I really don't like it when books are full of made up words that seem unpronounceable. It's very distracting and annoying. Thankfully, there wasn't too much of that after the initial chapters. I did find myself sucked in to the story and very interested in the characters. Looking forward to book two.

I received a free e-galley from Netgalley.com

Great worldbuilding, compelling characters. Thankfully a complete story on its own, though there are plenty of tantalizing hooks for the next book in the series.
