It's set in a Dystopian society in futuristic Chicago selected upon fractions. These fractions are based upon the traits and talents of the individuals that are 16 years of age. But are they really? Do they really have the freedom of "choice" of which fraction they should belong too or is it another form of control based upon how one should think and act.

I wanted to like this more than I did. I think the world building has potential and the idea of setting up the factions as a way to prevent civil unrest is intriguing (if not very original). On the other hand, it feels like a typical coming-of-age tale in which a smart and sassy teenager who is misunderstood by adults/society is set up to be the one destined to save everyone from their own stupidity and greed. The dialogue and action was well paced and I'm interested enough that I'll likely cont

Ok story and characters but everything was bit too simple for my taste. But I'm going to read the next volume too.

I loved this book. It's a good book if it's 2 am and you have an alarm set for 6:30 am, but you consider just staying up to keep reading...twice. It reminded me quite early on of both the Matched and Delirium series. I enjoyed both of those, so why wouldn't I like this? YA dystopian fiction just seems to be my thing.

Having tried to read The Hunger Games, I was a bit hesitant in reading this but I found this book was a lot better for one. The author didn't force things on you, making you gag.
sure it's similiar to The Hunger Games, but let's remind our selves that The Running Man came first.

I just could not get into this book. I had never read dystopian, unless I did in high school and did not know it then. Not sure if Brave New World or Lord of the Flies is considered dystopian. I don't think back in the 80s, the word "dystopian" was even used. I debated whether to even read this and for a long time did not. I decided to try listening it on audio, but after listening to several chapters, I decided this just wasn't for me.

I enjoyed this. I also liked the movie. As I was reading, I couldn't help comparing the book with the movie. There were some slight differences between the two, but nothing major. I liked the extra stuff about the factions that was included in this book. I am hoping the other two are just as good. I am going to have to watch the movie again to see if there was something from the book in the movie that I might have missed.
