Bird Box has been on my radar for a long time and I was unable to obtain a copy until recently. When the movie was released to Netflix, I somehow managed to avoid all spoilers so I went into this one totally blind (pun not intended).
It was definitely worth the wait! I absolutely loved this book! I devoured it in one sitting (approximately 8 hours with a few short breaks throughout). This definitely just topped my list of favorites in the dystopian genre.

The blurb on the back from Hugh Howey says that this book demands to be read in one sitting, and he certainly isn't wrong! This book grabs you from page one and never lets go.
The concept is incredibly unique: a creature that, when seen, drives people to murderous and suicidal insanity. The characters spend the entire book either barricaded in a dark home, or blindfolded against the dangers of seeing a creature outdoors. The novel is fast-paced and spooky. I couldn't wait to see how it ended. But I was left with a shade of disappointment. I feel like the ending left something to be desired. Maybe it was left that way so the reader would buy book #2.
The plot is fast-paced, alternating between flashbacks and present-day events. I got a little lost sometimes. The feelings of desperation, fear, anxiety, and helplessness that Malorie feels become intense to the reader. I felt legitimate sorrow and fear for her.

An enjoyable tale of survival in a scary world where people are few but monsters are many. Well-written, suspenseful and page-turning. An author to watch.

The flashbacks are really great parts. I like some of the differences from the movie, some I didn't.
The bar scene, the birth scene were both really great.
Stressful and tense, the author really manages to capture the confusion in the moment from Malorie's perspective.
