Still one of my favorites :)

Overall, enjoyable.
Saba's dialect took some getting used to. This character, also, was hard to agree with as a "heroine" but she eventually won me over. Kudos for creating a character who grows/changes.
Interesting sprinkling of the possible "magic" of this world. Heartstone. The midsummer's ritual. Reading the stars to foretell the future.
Plot moves along at a good clip. Did the author watch "Mad Max" during the Hopetown scenes? Just curious. I liked how Saba met new people/made friends. Very un ...more

This YA Dystopian debut by Canadian author, Moira Young, is pretty good. It won numerous literary awards, including: Sunburst Award Nominee for Young Adult (2012), Costa Book Award for Children's Book (2011), Cybils Award for Fantasy & Science Fiction (Young Adult) (2011), and Teen Buckeye Book Award Nominee (2012).

There were things to appreciate in this apocalyptic adventure read and things that can easily drive us average readers to distraction. Obsessed and intrepid heroine Saba is the opposite in every way of her twin brother, Lugh. When said brother is kidnapped Saba finds herself orphaned and responsible for both her younger sister and kidnapped older brother's rescue.
Crossing the rudest lands imaginable, Saba falls into one bad situation that rapidly spins into a worse one. But s ...more

Blood Red Road was great. I have read a few other post-apocalyptic books, and they were not very good, But blood red road just blew me away. Saba is the perfect heroine, Jack is her perfect love, and to top it off she has the perfect crew. Great book! Can't wait for the next one, Rebel Heart.
