I didn't care for this story much at all and don't understand why they are so popular. Soneji didn't appear that smart at all and Alex, while it said he's such a great detective, seemed to spend more time complaining or with his new girlfriend. Maybe it was the way the story was told, but I have no interest in continuing this series and wouldn't recommend it.

#1 in the Alex Cross detective series
At first I didn't particularly care for Alex Cross. He seemed to have a chip on his shoulder about being black, or at least about growing up poor in an all-black neighborhood. But as the story went on, I got to know him better and could appreciate his strong sense of right and wrong, his dogged determination to finish the case, and his willingness to protect the victim from the bad guys, from the media, and from bureaucratic red tape.
