Vianne's and Isabelle's journeys were engaging from the beginning. Their opposite personalities brought an intriguing clash to the scenes they shared and spunk to the ones they held on their own.

Most of the plot kept me riveted, and I enjoyed the plethora of tense moments and surprises. The mountain hikes were fascinating and made me wonder if such traverses were based on true events. Such bravery! (Reminds me of the Von Trapp family too.)

For a general market book, the Nightingale was pretty goo

Even though I'm not a big fan of historical books but this was such a great story. There are so many emotions in this story, fear, sadness, anger, and determination for survival and to do what is right. Some much goes on in this story even between family members but it was such a great read. ...more

This book will stay with me forever.
It falls into the historical fiction genre, and there has only been one other book from that category that has moved me to tears. This book is haunting. It will make you see World War 2 for the hell that it really was, if you don't see it that way already.
If you do pick it up, be prepared to weep.

I can't recommend this enough. 5 Stars.

Anyone who reads my reviews knows I give few books 5 stars. Well, this is one that truly deserves it.

This is an emotion-filled historical fiction book taking place during World War II in France. The Nightingale is the story of two sisters and their experiences during the war. Each in their own way becomes a heroine to the people they touch.

Kristin Hannah takes the reader on an odyssey of love, pain, betrayal, despair, poignancy, and even joy as Vianne and Isabelle in their own way fulfill the

Devastatingly good! Kristin Hannah delves into wartime France, when Nazies paraded through the streets and billeted in homes. The two Rossignol sisters are divided by life choices, but both explore what it means to be courageous, to love and to be a family. I loved the resilience displayed by the characters and they make me want to be a better, stronger person.

Absolutely riveting-I couldn't put this down because I was caught up in the tension and fear both Vianne and Isabelle felt during the German occupation of France. It was interesting to see how differently each sister approached their lives during the occupation and how, despite their differences, they both saved lives in the resistance. I was crying like a baby as the book concluded-it was such a bittersweet ending but war time stories should never have perfect, happy endings. I had been on my l ...more
